Did you know we now have a Facebook page?  We hope you’ll like it and share it with your friends.  When you search for Iron Gate Antiques, be sure to get the one in Bluemont, though, as there are several . . .

As many of you know, Bob loves clocks.  When we recently visited Sean at Auburn, we went to a terrific clock museum in the neighboring city of Opelika, AL called Old Timers & Chimers Clocks.  Their website at http://www.oldtimersandchimers.com/ doesn’t do the place justice, which is not only filled with a huge variety of clocks, but is also housed in an historic house that would be interesting to visit even without the clocks!  If you’re ever in that area, we highly encourage you to go there.  As you can imagine, we spent quite a long time there hearing wonderful stories from the owner and having great discussions.

One of the other results of trip is that we brought home several clocks for the store.  Photos of all of them are on the Recent Acquisitions tab of our website, but the one Bob talks about most  was made by the Ingraham Clock Company, which was founded by Elias Ingraham who began making clocks in 1828.  This one was made specifically for the Wooden Ware Hardware Company of Atlanta, and there is a special Wooden Ware label on the back of the clock, which dates from 1906.

There are also two other recent acquisitions:  a davenport and a hall tree.   The davenport is gorgeous!  It’s Eastlake in style and made of walnut. The cubby drawers are bird’s eye maple. Overall dimensions are 60 inches high by 31 inches wide by 23 inches deep.  The hall tree, which is also walnut, has its original marble top  marble shelf drawer, the original mirror, original hardware and cast iron drip pans.Overall dimensions are 91 inches high by 38 inches wide by 12 inches deep. Both the davenport and the hall tree are from the late 1800s.

It’s hard to believe the holidays are already upon us!  We’ll be open Veteran’s Day, even though it is a Monday, but we’ll be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.  We’ll reopen on Saturday the 30th for your holiday shopping needs!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours . . .
