And just like that it’s Christmas time once more! (Isn’t that from a song? If not, it should be.) Every year we intend to be ready early—with cards and gifts to be mailed and decorations for both inside and outside, so that we’ll be able to just enjoy the season. Yet despite our good intentions, we see others with their trees up already and we’re still trying to figure out a day when everyone is available to get one. There must be some sort of time contraction the closer we get to the end of the year . . .

We managed to find time last month for a field trip to Monticello. It was already decorated for Christmas (of course!) and was gorgeous. I expected the greenery on the fireplace mantels, but hadn’t anticipated it’s use elsewhere, such as around the punch bowl or the giant ball of holly hanging from the light in the entry hall. We got some new garland this year for our front porch; it looks great, but as it has lights, isn’t exactly traditional. (It gets dark so early, though!) It was fun seeing how beautiful another house looked when it was decorated and of course we admired the furniture, all of which was antique. Somehow though, I suspect if there were big screen TVs when Jefferson lived there, he would have found a way to tastefully disguise it.

Here’s hoping your holidays are everything you want them to be! We’ll be closed for Christmas and New Year’s Day, both of which are on Saturday this year. Since we’re already closed on Sundays, the next newsletter will be sent on/about January 3, 2022. Until then, we look forward to helping with your antique furniture needs!
