Enjoying the summer? It seems like there’s always more to do in the summer than time to do it! There are even things going on in Bluemont such as the Peach Daze Fuzztival at Great Country Farms on the 6th & 7th, with live music at the Bluemont Vineyard where they are featuring Peach Wine Slushies and a special peach brew at Dirt Farm Brewing. Great Country Farms will also host the Big Dig Tater Harvest on the 20th & 21st, but we don’t anticipate any potato flavored wines or beer—thank goodness! We had a great time picking our own potatoes at this event before and came home with enough potatoes to last a month. It was really fun.
Another important date to keep in mind this month is Friday the 19th, which is when early registration for the Bluemont Fair 10K ends. After that the price goes up and there’s no guarantee on a t-shirt. The logo for the Fair, scheduled for September 17th & 18th, is really cute this year (see below), so go ahead and register if you plan to run (or walk) the race.
Also shown below is a Hunzinger platform rocker, which is a new acquisition. Born in Germany in 1835, George Jakob Hunzinger emigrated to the US in 1855 and began manufacturing furniture in New York City, which he did until his death in 1898. Known for incorporating new technology and materials into his furniture, Hunzinger was one of the foremost patent furniture designers whose designs are extremely sought after by antique furniture collectors. The most sought after Hunzinger chairs are his patented “duplex spring” rocking chairs that were designed from 1882. Hunzinger is known for both for his “lollipop” rockers and using barley twists. More photos of this chair are on the Recent Acquisitions page
Finally, there are no special hours for this month. Come by on the weekend to also visit our neighbor, Wild Hare Cidery; a nice, cold glass of cider is very refreshing on these hot days! Hope to see you soon . . .

P.S. We almost had a “Wow” chair made of cherry to showcase in this month’s newsletter, but it sold the same day it was delivered to the store!
