We have some exciting news. As of today, we’ll have some merchandise in Blue Peacock Antiques in Winchester! Located at 326 South Braddock Street, they have over 10,000 square feet of space with more than 45 dealers. Even their showroom is unique, being located in the 1940s Pine Motor Company building in the heart of beautiful Old Town Winchester. They are open from 10 until 5, seven days per week. Find them on line at http://bluepeacockantiquesva.com/. Having more room for antiques is always a good thing, right?
This month’s recent acquisitions include several bridge lamps. These lamps and were very popular from the 1910’s through the 1940’s, and were used for both lighting and decoration. Since most of the light from a bridge lamp falls in a downward pattern, these lamps make great reading lights. They were also used near tables when light was needed. Because the homes of this period often had high ceilings and overhead lighting was not sufficient, bridge lamps were moved around the home to provide light where it was needed. While we’re featuring glass shades, which are sold separately, on these lamps, shades made of fabric and decorated with fringe and/or beads were not uncommon. As for special hours this month, we’ll be closed this weekend (July 4-5) for the holiday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to serving you the other days of the month. However, if you are looking for something to do this weekend, check out the Purcellville Parade on Saturday starting at 12:30. This year’s theme is “It’s a Grand Ol’ Flag,” so pull out your best red, white and blue attire . . .
Other events this month include the Purcellville Wine & Food Festival on July 18th. This year’s event will include a beer garden, with four local breweries collaborating on a farmhouse saison called “4 Saisons” (“4 Seasons” in French) that will debut at the festival. See http://www.purcellvillewineandfood.com/index.html for more on the event. Additionally, Great Country Farms has a Butterfly & Blackberries Festival on July 25th-26th. Focused on the Monarch butterfly, this event will include tips on how you can help restore habitat in your community to make it more butterfly-friendly. As usual, there are lots of interesting things to do. We hope to see you soon when you’re out this way!
