Happy Independence Day weekend! We will be closing at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 2nd and will reopen on Tuesday, July 5th. Come on out then and see the paintings that are on the Recent Acquisitions page of our website at [insert link here].
Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a way to celebrate, Purcellville’s July 4th Parade begins at 12:30 on Monday. Later, head to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Purcellville for fun and games beginning at 4:30. There will be a free Monk’s BBQ dinner at 5:30. They’ll have live bluegrass, Lt. Col. Oliver North (yes, the famous one) reading the Declaration of Independence, a sing-a-long and a prayer for our nation—all before the fireworks. Should be a good time!
Purcellville is also the place to be on July 16th, when Fireman’s Field will be home to the 5th annual Wine & Food Festival. The 30 vendors this year include a farmed oyster ranch that will serve raw and char-broiled oysters shucked to order. Apparently a professional shucker can shuck 500 oysters per hour! Who knew? Get tickets at http://www.purcellvillewineandfood.com/.
Check out Bluemont’s own Great Country Farm at the end of the month (the 30th & 31st) as they assist the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s efforts to bring back the Monarch butterfly. Visit their new butterfly garden and learn about the plants these butterflies need to survive, and how you can help restore habitat in your community. Blackberries should be ready for picking that weekend, too!
Now for a “before” and “after” example:
Sean did the caning on this maple child’s rocker that has been in the owner’s family for four generations. When he goes back to Auburn University next month, he’ll work caning jobs there, so please keep that in mind if you know anyone in the area who may need that sort of work.
