Did you know that we restore trunks?  With some students going back to college, we had the opportunity to restore the one shown below to reflect the student’s college colors.  What a unique and useful gift!  The trunk was in pretty bad shape when it came in (see 2nd photo), so restoration was needed on both the inside and outside of the trunk.  But now it will be a great addition to a dorm room, providing both storage space and decoration. A flat top or steamer trunk we previously restored ended up as a coffee table with the addition of a glass top.  While it won’t work with a dome top trunk, that use of a trunk adds a travel feel to a room and can still be used for storing items used infrequently such as seasonal items.  That flat top or steamer trunks were very popular from the 1880’s through the 1920’s, so you may be able to find out at yard or barn sales.

Though it may not feel like fall without the Fair this year, Great Country Farms still has apples to be picked and a corn maze. Advance tickets are recommended for weekend visits due to COVID-related social distancing limitations; they can be purchased on line at greatcountryfarms.com.  Their other establishments, Dirt Farm Brewing and Bluemont Vineyard, are also open, with Bluemont Vineyard planning an “I Love Lucy” style grape stomp this month.  (If you participate, I hope you’ll share pictures or video.  What fun!)  Other local establishments such as Bear Chase Brewing Company, another place with amazing views, are also open.  Check out the website loudounfarms.org to help you plan a trip and enjoy a drive in the country.  We’re normally open Mondays through Saturdays if you’d like to stop by while you’re in the area, but will be closed on Labor Day.
