April 2022

April 7, 2022

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you on the date. The newsletter is late! One of the reasons is that we were in Florida. While there we visited the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Ft. Myers. If you have the opportunity to visit, it’s definitely worth seeing. A few photos of the rooms on display are below. There’s also a museum that has some old cars and beautiful gardens. Something for everyone!

While there we learned an interesting fact about phonographs. When first invented, there was no volume control, so the way to reduce the sound coming from them was to put something in the horn. That may have been the origin of the expression “put a sock in it!” Who knew?

If you are looking for events in Western Loudoun, you may want to consider A Spring Market at Ballenger Farm in Hamilton on April 23rd. There will be artists and crafts people from Virginia and Maryland. Tickets are $15 through eventbrite.com.

Leesburg’s Flower and Garden Festival is also on the 23rd and 24th. This free event in downtown Leesburg features 150+ vendors, food, and entertainment. (In case you’re interested in Irish dance, Loudoun County’s own Celtic Rhythm School of Dance will be performing at noon that Saturday!) As long as the weather cooperates, this is an event that’s not to be missed.

Lastly, Purcellville will have a Music and Art Festival on April 30th. This family friendly event is free and will be held at Dillon’s Woods at 250 S. Nursery Ave. from noon until 7. There are multiple stages with a variety of music. Additionally, 35 local artists will have items for sale.

Hope you have a great month—what’s left of it!
