We have a gorgeous recent acquisition to feature this month! The corner cupboard shown below is mahogany, with inlaid wood on the edges. It has five shelves and is priced for a quick sale at only $600. Additional photos of this and other recent acquisitions, to include yet another barrister bookcase, are on our website at http://irongateantiques.com/recent-acquisitions/
People have asked us where we get the antiques we sell. Some come from auctions. Because of the restoration work we do, we’re able to purchase items that need repair, bring them back to life (so to speak), then sell them. You’ve all probably seen the before & after photos, either on our Facebook page or in the store, showing how pieces can go from trash to treasure. We do also buy things at auction that are ready for re-sale. Our favorite auction house is Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati. The owner, Wes Cowan, has been on Antiques Roadshow and History Detectives. He’s just as genuine and professional in person.
If you are looking for a way to make a difference this month, please consider supporting the Joshua’s Hands Valiant Warrior Quilting Event, August 4-13. We work at 201 N. Maple Ave. in Purcellville, which is open 9 AM – 9 PM every day except Sunday when it opens at 1 PM. No experience is necessary. The intent is to make 100 quilts—all of which go to Wounded Warriors, including those at Bluemont’s own Boulder Crest Retreat.
Finally, mark your calendars for this year’s Bluemont Fair on September 16th & 17th. The Fair is from 10 until 5. More about that in next month’s newsletter or check it out at http://bluemontfair.org/.
