February 2019

Bob and Cecil found an interesting new use for a Victorian pump organ. You may have seen the below photo, which shows the top half of an oak organ converted into a wall-mounted halltree, on our Facebook page.  Besides being completely refinished, hooks have been added to provide places to hang jackets, hats or umbrellas.  The mirror is a great spot for a last check before heading out or a place to make repairs when coming in from outside.  (Trying to stay warm this winter either leaves my hair flattened to my head or standing straight up with static electricity—both super annoying!)  Do you have a place in your home for this beautiful piece?

If you’re looking for things to do in Western Loudoun this month, consider 868 Estate Vineyard’s Super Bowl snacks paired with wine this weekend; for details, see https://868estatevineyards.com/events/. Later in the month the Bluemont Community Center has several Valentine’s Day-themed events for children; more info is available at https://www.loudoun.gov/1221/Bluemont-Community-Center. Adults may prefer Dirt Farm Brewing’s Flight & Truffles weekend, which has a Love Your Stouts theme. Perhaps one of the other weekends you’ll want to consider checking out Cocktails with Cupcake, an adorable miniature horse who joins patrons in the living room of the Salamander Resort in Middleburg on Fridays and Saturdays; for details call 540-326-4020.             Lynne & Bob McCann
