January 2021

January 2, 2021

Happy New Year!  We hope that you enjoyed some time with family over the holidays and that 2021 will be a better year for everyone.

To start this year off, we’re featuring a fainting couch as our Recent Acquisition for the month.  A fainting couch is a daybed with a curved wooden frame and a back that is raised only at one end of the piece.  The term “fainting couch” may have come about during the Victorian era when women wearing corsets were prone to faint; these couches, which were popular then, were in one’s fainting room.  For those of us who don’t have a fainting room, this would work in a large master bedroom to add seating for a child or a pet.  This one has elaborate carving, but as it is very low to the ground, it would also be perfect for a little girl’s room, perhaps with some different fabric . .

Have you been to one of the newest businesses in Bluemont–Henway Hard Cider?  It’s right by Great Country Farms and if you don’t want to wait until spring for the GCF Cider Donuts, you can order them online and pick them up over the weekend at Henway.  In mid-January the GCF Harvest Produce Shares go on sale.  This is an opportunity to get 20-weeks (June-October) of customized fruit and veggies produced locally; for an additional fee, it can be delivered to your door.  Members receive unlimited admissions to the farm, to include their festival weekends, and discounts at all the GCF businesses:  Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm Brewing and Henway Hard Cider.  Sounds like a good deal!

Just a reminder, we’re now on our winter hours, which means we close at 5 p.m. on Saturdays.  We plan to be open regular hours (10-6) for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on the 18th and hope you’ll stop by to visit.  Please call Bob at 703-975-8389 if you have any questions about whether the store is open, since it is that time of year when we may get snow.  (Fingers crossed!)  We look forward to seeing you soon!
