November 2018

November 1, 2018
This month’s featured recent acquisition was designed for the elegant table we strive to achieve during the holiday season. Pictured below is a caviar dish that is triple plated silver, which is most common in late 19th/early 20th century pieces. Fun fact—silver plating that has become oxidized can be cleaned either with silver cleaner or with toothpaste. While most caviar sets come with spoons, this one is unique in that it has mini-forks.

There are so many fun events in the area this month that it’s hard to know which to mention! Starting on the 3rd, there is the free Purcellville Artisan Tour and on the 4th, the Clarke County Parks & Recreation Fall-Holiday Craft Show in Berryville. If you are looking for something bigger, that same weekend is the 2018 Chantilly Holiday Flea Market at the Dulles Expo Center.
The following weekend includes the Marine Corps Birthday and Veteran’s Day. Tell Bob about your military affiliation on the 10th for a discount on your purchase. On the 11th, Bob plans to display his antique flag collection at our house in Hamilton (weather permitting), which you won’t miss if you drive through town. The Loudoun Valley Community Center in Purcellville will hold their 14th Annual 5K Turkey Trot on the 11th, and there will be a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI at the Courthouse in Leesburg beginning promptly at 11:00, where speakers representing The George C. Marshall International Center, Morven Park, Mosby Heritage Area Association, Oatlands and Thomas Balch Library will share stories of local history. These will include life on the home front and local citizens’ experiences during the war.
Come back to Hamilton on the 17th for a Holiday Bazaar at the Hamilton Safety Center. The Gingersnap Girls Equine Education & Rescue Foundation will have a table there and they always have great things—for a good cause!
We’ll be closed on the 22nd and 23rd for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. If you are in the Purcellville area, there will be a free Thanksgiving dinner at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church beginning at noon, followed by a worship service at 1:30.
On the 24th, we’ll reopen for Small Business Saturday. There’s usually a Holiday Craft Show at the Bluemont Community Center that day, and that weekend the Goose Creek Players are presenting Miracle on 34th Street several times.
If we don’t see you before then, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
