November 2020

November 1, 2020

This month we’re featuring a bathroom—ours! The renovation of our guest bathroom was just like those seen on HGTV in that it took much longer than expected and was full of “issues” that required more and more money to fix. But, in the end, we’re very happy with the way it looks. It’s certainly a HUGE improvement over the 1950’s bathroom that had been there, complete with a Formica countertop, linoleum that was peeling away from the floor, a plywood cabinet, etc.

For the purpose of this newsletter, the specific item we want to feature is the antique dresser-turned-vanity. All the drawers are able to be used for storage, even the middle one on the top row, though that’s split into two smaller drawers on either side of the plumbing for the sink; see photo above. The key thing in selecting the dresser was ensuring it would fit along the wall in the spot available. The finish was actually very different when we got it, but Bob stained it to go with the wood trim used around the doors. That was made from the floorboards found under the peeling linoleum, which was a pleasant surprise. Another good surprise was the window above the door between the vanity and the tub; we’d talked about putting a window there, but when the plywood that had been there was removed, found an existing window.  Please let us know if you’d like contact info for the individuals who did the wallpaper and the tiling. Both are from Winchester. Neither was inexpensive, but they did great work.

Now that the time has changed and it gets dark so early, we’ll be closing at 5 p.m. on Saturdays. We’ll be closed for Thanksgiving on the 26th and 27th, but open for the 10th annual Small Business Saturday on the 28th. Hope you have much to be thankful for in this very unusual year!
