November 2022

This month’s featured recent acquisition is a pair of Maddox side tables. The Maddox Furniture Company was founded in the late 1800’s by William Maddox and several other members of his family near Jamestown, NY. Though they were known for furniture made from local wood, William Maddox also patented a machine for polishing table tops that he sold to other furniture manufacturers. The company was sold to Shermean Brothers in 1919, though the Maddox name, with its distinctive logo of a bull, continued to be used by the company. The pair of side tables shown below are mahogany and are 16 inches wide and 14 inches deep. The drawers have mahogany veneer.

We have several other recent acquisitions, so check out the photos at http://irongateantiques.com/recent-acquisitions/. The photos may not get up there quickly, but they do get there eventually. 😊

Mark your calendars for November 4, when the Loudoun Sketch Club, Loudoun County’s oldest arts organization, hosts “Showing Off,” the 78th Annual Member Show and Sale at the Franklin Park Performing & Visual Arts Center. This is a chance to meet the artists, vote for your favorite work of art, purchase one (or more!) to take home with you, and enjoy light refreshments at the reception scheduled from 5-8 p.m.

As we get closer to the holidays, there are many local holiday markets of potential interest. For example, the 2022 Catoctin Holiday Art Tour (www.catoctinart.com) will be held November 12-13, with 8 studios featuring the work of 19 artists. (If you enjoyed the Western Loudoun Artist Studio Tour in June, I’d definitely recommend this!) On November 19, there are a couple holiday craft sales in nearby Hamilton:  one at the fire and rescue squad and the other at the Methodist church. Bluemont’s own Dirt Farm Brewing has a Brocctoberfest scheduled for November 19-20; bring boots for the mud and they’ll have everything you need to pick broccoli, beets, chard, and kale—just in time for your Thanksgiving feast.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we plan to be closed the entire weekend to enjoy time with family. We hope you’ll be doing the same!
