April 2019

As a follow up from last month’s newsletter, what do you think: did March go out like a lamb?  Saturday was certainly nice . . .

This month we’re featuring our recent acquisitions, which include the items shown below. More photos are available on the website at http://irongateantiques.com/recent-acquisitions/

The table is an English Regency sofa table dating from 1790-1830. This mahogany piece has flaps at either end, a frieze with two drawers on one side and corresponding dummy drawers on the other side. It’s four splayed legs all end in brass casters. Open it measures 56-3/4” long by 24” deep; it stands 28-1/4” tall.

If you aren’t familiar with samovars, they are metal urns used in Russian culture to heat water for tea. Traditionally, the water is heated by a charcoal in an inner chamber, but more recent samovars use electricity. While the silver colored one was electric, we don’t have the cord to accompany it and don’t recommend using these for anything other than decoration. Imagine how nice one would look on the center of a table, perhaps as a vase for some silk flowers . . .

In the spirit of April Fools’ Day, we do have one other recent acquisition, but this one isn’t for sale. It’s the Model T truck that Bob bought for himself using money from his father’s estate. It’s like one last gift from his father! The bed on the truck was made by Martin-Parry.They made delivery truck bodies and matched them to Model T Chasis. Once it’s drive-able, you may see it at the store.
