Happy Holidays! Our featured acquisition for this month is the pair of Waterford chairs shown pictured. Nearby Waterford, Virginia has long been known as the home of a particularly distinctive and beautiful version of the ladderback side chairs and rocking chairs that characterized American 18th- and 19th-century furniture. Waterford chairs are recognized by design features common to both the side chairs and the less common rockers, such as acorn-shaped finials; wide, gracefully arched splats; and splint-bottom seats. More photos are on the Recent Acquisitions tab of our website at Recent Acquisitions.
If you haven’t gotten a Christmas tree yet, you may want to try one of the local, cut-your-own tree farms. Snickers Gap Christmas Tree Farm on Williams Gap Road is the closest to the store, but there are a number of others in the area. Also consider attending one of the local holiday events. Options include: in Middleburg, an all day Christmas festival on the 2nd including a parade, breakfast with Santa, and live music; in Purcellville, free trolley tours to look at decorations on the 8th & 10th, and a parade on the 9th at noon followed by ornament making at the train station; in Hillsboro, a historic homes tour on the 9th, and winter market/holiday craft fair on the 9th & 10th; in Leesburg, a holiday craft show at Ida Lee on the 2nd & 3rd, and a parade the evening of the 9th; and in Lovettsville, a Light Up Lovettsvile competition the evenings of the 18th & 19th.
As for special hours for this month, we’ll be closed on the 24th & 25th for Christmas. Since we’ll also be closed January 1st for New Year’s, the next newsletter will be out on January 2, 2018. Have a Happy New Year!
