Hooray—we made it through January, which Bob calls Chair Month as it’s when people bring in the chairs that were broken over the holidays. He said he worked on 20 chairs in January. The photo below shows a set of eight that came in to be stripped and refinished, but for “homework” it seems as if he’s been caning seats every night. The work of an artisan is never done . . .
In case you’re planning ahead, the Bluemont Fair organizers announced that this year’s fair will be September 20-21. They also announced that the winner of the 54th annual Bluemont Fair Juried Crafts Winner was Amy Oliver of Monkeytown Pottery in Airmont, VA. If you didn’t have a chance to see her work in September—or have forgotten which it was, check out the Monkeytown Pottery Facebook page. Amy also offers classes if you’re interested in trying something new this year.
If you’re looking for a reason to head to Bluemont, there’s always something going on. For example, the Bluemont Station Brewery & Winery is having a Be My Valentine Cooking Class on the 15th from noon until 2. The Bluemont Vineyard is going more traditional with a Valentine’s Chef’s Table with a 4 course, wine-paired dinner on the 14th and 15th. However you choose to celebrate, hope you enjoy!
For special hours this month, we plan to be open on President’s Day, which is the 17th, but will be closed on Saturday, the 22nd.
