We hope you enjoy the before and after photos as much as we do! This gooseneck rocker—named for the bird-shaped arms best seen in the third photo, is a style that was popular in the 1930’s. The arms were refinished, which removed the old varnish and the dirt it accumulated, bringing the color of the wood back to its natural state. The stained upholstery was replaced with a new fabric that is stain resistant, as almost all upholstery fabric is now, and making the chair beautiful! You’ll note that the chair previously had a couple tufts, which is an option when upholstering, but I think the owner made a wise decision to go with the plain chair back.
If you’re looking for an excuse to come to Bluemont, it’s peach picking time at Great Country Farms. The Peach Fuzztival is the 3rd and 4th, with pick-your-own peaches, peach ice cream, and even a peach pit spitting contest! For those who’d prefer a more laid-back celebration, there are peach wine slushies at Bluemont Vineyard, peach cider at Henway Hard Cider, Som’ Peach Golden Ale at Dirt Farm Brewing; the ale, which was brewed with 800 pounds of peaches from Great Country Farms won a gold medal at the 2023 Virginia Craft Beer Cup! (It may not be an Olympic gold, but sounds like it would be delicious!)
This month we will be closed on the 24th and 31st, both Saturdays. On the weekdays between the 22nd and the 30th, we’ll be closing at 5 p.m. If you’re planning to come by the last week and a half of the month, you may want to call before you come. We do plan to be open on Labor Day, September 2nd.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
