September 3, 2024
It’s September and you know what that means—it’s Bluemont Fair time! This year’s fair is the 54th and will be on the 21st and 22nd. Fair hours are 10-5 each day. With a $10 admission fee for those age 10 and over, it’s a real bargain since activities include:
- Shopping at the art show & sale, farm market, bake sale (our favorite!), gardener’s shed, and juried craft show
- Watching artisan and blacksmith demonstrations
- Visiting the Plaster Museum of Bluemont’s Heritage and the Snickersville Academy to learn more about the local history
- Trying new activities like the rock-climbing wall or the rope bridge hosted by the Boy Scouts
- Meeting local authors, listening to music at the two entertainment stages, and trying local beer and wine
If that isn’t enough, youngsters may enjoy the children’s fair section where there are hay bales to climb, glitter art, and bubbles. Other activities for children include a barrel train ride, a petting zoo, and pony rides. They may also appreciate the model train exhibit, which is in the same building as the quilt display. For those interested in the Irish dancing, recommend arriving just as the Fair opens on the 21st as we’ll be performing on the Bluemont Community Center stage beginning at 10 A.M.
This year’s fair logo is shown below. T-shirts and posters will be on sale at the EE Lake General Store across the street from Iron Gate. The winning artist, Becky Greene, grew up in Bluemont. While it’s too late this year for the poster contest, there’s still time to enter the pickle and pie competitions; see https://www.bluemontfair.org/pickle-pie-contest/ for details.
One further reminder about the fair is that there is a strict no pets policy, so please leave the pets at home!
Please also keep an eye on our Facebook page and store website as there are some changes on the horizon. Details to follow . . . Bob & Lynne McCann
