Anyone recognize the piece of furniture shown below?

It was commonly called a telephone stand and dates from the 1920’s or 1930’s—back when phones had cords. The “before” photo is included for comparison, so you can see how well the restoration went. It’s pretty amazing how beautiful wood looks after removing the varnish and dirt built up over decades!

If you want to see what unique pieces we have in the store, come out and see us, though we’ll be closed on July 4th Independence Day and on July 20th for an Irish dancing competition. If you are looking for ways to celebrate, there are a number of fun events in the area besides the fireworks displays at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg and Franklin Park in Purcellville. Lovettsville will have their Independence Day parade and fireworks the evening of July 3rd. Dirt Farm Brewing is having a Pig Roast with two seatings; their vantage point on top of the mountain provides views of multiple fireworks displays—but tickets must be purchased in advance.

Speaking of Dirt Farm, they’ve opened a 3-1/2 mile trail to hikers with mountain biking coming soon. The trail, which includes a 400-foot elevation change, opens when the brewery does and closes one hour before they close. Dogs on leashes are welcome, but no outside food or beverage is. Good thing they have plenty of food and beverage for sale!

This year the Purcellville Independence Day parade will start at 11 A.M. on July 4th at Blue Ridge Middle School and will finish there after making a loop up 20th Street to Main Street and back down Maple Avenue. As usual, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will be hosting a free bar-b-que after the parade with bluegrass music and former Congressman Frank Wolf reading the Declaration of Independence. Hope to see you there!
