This month’s featured product is the Lincoln rocker shown below. THE Lincoln rocker—that is, the one President Lincoln was sitting in when he was shot at Ford’s Theater in 1865—was a parlor rocker that the manager had placed in the theater box for Lincoln’s use that evening. It was later used as evidence at the trial of the conspirators before eventually ending up at the Henry Ford Museum (a great place to visit if you’re ever in Michigan!). Lincoln rockers are characterized by their curved backrests, spacious seats, and gentle arc of their rockers. They typically have curved or scrolled arms, which add comfort and support. Usually made of hardwood and other high-quality materials, Lincoln rockers tend to be durable and aesthetically pleasing, adding a touch of historical elegance to a living room, study, bedroom, or wherever comfortable seating is needed. If you’re wondering how such a beautiful chair would work in a contemporary interior, imagine it reupholstered with a modern fabric; we have plenty of upholstery fabric books to provide options!

There are many types of rocking chairs. The one on the right above is from a Facebook page focused on reusing and recycling items with its parts coming from an old treadle sewing machine. Anyone have one that you’d like to have us convert into a rocker?

It’s almost time for the Western Loudoun Art and Studio Tour, which this year will be next weekend, June 7th-9th. This free event is detailed on WLAST.org with an interactive map and photos of participating artists’ work to help you schedule your visits. Note that not all studios will be open on Friday.

Speaking of not being open, we’ll be closed on June 19th for the Federal Holiday.
