November 2019

November 1, 2019

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to start thinking about the holidays—unless you’re Costco, which seems to put Christmas items out beginning in July. In any case, for those of us who are a little more traditional, we have several recent acquisitions that may be of potential interest either as a gift or for yourself.  Both are shown below, but additional photos can be seen at Recent Acquisitions. The first is a late 18th c. painting by Charles Copeland b. 1858,  Thomaston, Me./d. 1945. The painting is a fall theme with woods  and  two deer in a clearing.  Frame is 24 x 34 inches. Painting is 17 ½ by 27 ½ inches. The second is a barrel backed red leather library chair that was made in England. This Victorian style chair dates from 1860-1880.

This is also the season of Holiday Bazaars. Bluemont’s 7th Annual Holiday Craft Show will be from 10 until 4 on November 30th (which also happens to be Small Business Saturday!).  Held at the Bluemont Community Center, this event routinely attracts the same high-quality crafters who participate in the Bluemont Fair’s juried show.  Similar events around the area include one at the Hamilton Safety Center on November 16th and the 26th Northern Virginia Christmas Market at the Dulles Expo Center on November 8th.

If you prefer to make your own gifts, the Bluemont Vineyard is hosting a Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop on November 3rd.  No knitting experience is required, and the registration fee includes both instruction and material for lap blanket.  Sounds interesting . . .

We have some special hours for this month. We’ll be closed on November 11th for Veterans Day, and also on the 28th and 29th for Thanksgiving.  If you want to be sure we’re open, just give a call before you come out.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
