Did you make it out for the Bluemont Fair this year? Even if you visited the store that recently, we have several more recent acquisitions that may be of interest.  The first is a gorgeous mahogany Empire corner cupboard.  It is 88 inches high, including the finials, 44 inches wide and 30 inches deep. The cupboard has a broken arch pediment and 3 flame finials. There are 2 sections. The upper section has 2 shelves with plate grooves and the bottom cupboard has a shelf.  The wood is mahogany and in excellent condition  The second is an early 1800’s quarter sawn oak  English tall case clock, which is 7 feet 3 inches high.  It runs and strikes on the hour and half hour. The clockworks were recently overhauled. Photos of both are below, but additional photos can be seen at Recent Acquisitions

If you’re looking for something to do this month, you’re in luck! This weekend, Oct. 4-6, is the 75th Waterford Fair.  Tickets are cheaper in advance and you can get them at Wegman’s customer service desk or on-line.  The Waterford Fair is a celebration of the traditional arts and crafts.  You’ll find 100+ vendors selling their handmade products and many demonstrating how they’re made.  There’s live entertainment, hands on children’s activities, re-enactors, and tours of historic homes, with four different homes open each day.  Since food and drink is available for purchase, you may want to make a whole day of it.

Oct. 5 is this year’s Joshua’s Hands Fall Festival near the intersection of Routes 9 and 287. This is a completely FREE event that also focuses on preserving traditional arts.  There’s live entertainment, hay rides, crafts, demonstrations, a petting farm, an obstacle course, carnival style games, and an auction.  Bob will be demonstrating caning and rush seating, so Iron Gate will be closed on the 5th, but open the afternoon of the 6th.

Looking further ahead, Loudoun County’s Fall Farm Tour is Oct. 19-20. See https://loudounfarms.org/farmtour/ for information on this free, self-guided tour.  It seems like there are always new businesses participating.  The ones that caught my eye this year are Donkey Meadows (because who doesn’t want to “mingle with the donkeys?”) and Fort Bacon Farm, though a couple of my favorites (Blooming Hill Lavender Farm and Butterfly Hill Farm Store) are still on there.

If you can’t make it out for either of these fun filled weekends, Great Country Farms has pig races on weekends all month! Their Fall Pumpkin Harvest Festival includes picking your own pumpkins, hot cider donuts, a 1-1/2 acre corn maze, a pumpkin cannon, plenty of children’s activities, and a farm store so you can bring home local products.  They’re also open on Columbus Day, the 14th, and Active Duty and retired military ID card holders do not pay admission.
