Sorry about the newsletter being late—again! This time the excuse is that we were checking out Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands in NY. It was amazing and we’d recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

This month’s recent acquisition is a pair of mahogany bedside tables by Maddox Furniture Company, which initially sold products as Maddox Tables. The company began as a family business near Jamestown, NY in 1898. The family also owned a porcelain and decorative item company before branching out to furniture. One of the family, William J. Maddox (1865-1936), created furniture making machines that he sold to other manufacturers; he also received 21 patents, some of which revolutionized the wood furniture industry, including a machine used for polishing tabletops. Although the company was sold by the Maddox family in 1919, furniture was sold under the Maddox label until at least the 1980’s. William Maddox’ home at 62 Allen Street in Jamestown, NY is now the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club.

If you don’t think there’s a reason to come to Bluemont this month, don’t forget the Fair is the 16th and 17th from 10 until 5 each day. (As usual, the store will mirror those hours that weekend.) Admission is only $10, but children 9 and below are free; parking is also free. As no pets are allowed—since there will be some livestock at the Fair, recommend leaving them at home.

The schedule is on the Fair’s website (https://www.bluemontfair.org/) as the Fair Schedule under the Your Visit Tab. You’ll note that Celtic Rhythm School of Dance will be performing at the Community Center stage at 10 A.M. Saturday, so beat the heat and come to watch. The website also shows this year’s Fair poster, which is the best yet! (I’m going to make a point to get a t-shirt before they sell out!)

We hope to see you Fair weekend, but ask that furniture drop-offs and pick-ups be made any time other than that weekend due to complications of Fair traffic and parking. Thank you for understanding!
