May 2020

Dear Friends,                                                                                                    May 1, 2020

Another month and we’re all at home—all that is, except essential workers and those like Bob and Cecil who have individual workshops.  Bob said they’ve been “social distancing” since 2007.  What trend setters!

If you’ve seen our Facebook posts, you may have noticed the photo below of the chair that’s recently been reupholstered.  A “before” photo is included for comparison.

Perhaps you are interested in updating the look of your furniture but are wondering how to select a fabric.  Taking a sample of the fabric to set on the piece of furniture in question in the context of the room is a good place to start.  See how the potential fabric looks with both the wall color and the other furniture in the room.  Having one piece as a focal point—with a bright or contrasting fabric—is not a bad thing.  But neither is having all the pieces be in harmony.  It’s a matter of what you’re comfortable with.  Our former neighbor had a parlor set with matching pieces upholstered in different fabrics, but it worked.  That’s not something we would have considered—until we saw how it looked with her parlor set looked.  One of the photos below shows different fabrics on different pieces, but the other even shows more than one fabric on a single piece.  The possibilities are limited only by your imagination . . .
