January 2020

Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the holiday season.  With Martin Luther King Jr. Day coming up later this month, it’s never too early to start thinking about the next holiday.  If you are looking for way to make it a day of service, please consider joining Lynne at the Joshua’s Hands Valiant Warrior Quilting event that runs from the 17th through the 26th; see http://joshuashands.org/Valiant_Warrior_Quilting.html for more information.

We recently acquired a pair of kitchen chairs that we’ll feature in this newsletter. The chairs are oak and maple and date from the 1950’s .  As you can see from the photos below, the pressed design  on them is quite unique.  What fun!  These photos are also on the Recent Acquisitions tab of our website.

With the arrival of winter, not as much is going on in the Bluemont area; however, we wanted to bring to your attention 3rd annual luau pig roast taking place at nearby Dirt Farm Brewery on the 25th in conjunction with their Pineapple IPA release.  Now that they paved their driveway, it’s a much nicer drive up the mountain!  They also have live music on Friday nights.

Speaking of live music, B Chord Brewing Company has a full calendar of live music on offer. The Irish sessions that were previously on Sunday afternoons are now on the second and fourth Thursday of the month.  If you go, you may see us there listening to son Sean joining in with his accordion!  It’s a dog and kid friendly establishment, so everyone gets to enjoy the music.

Finally, if your New Year’s resolutions involved getting fit, Bluemont will be hosting a 5K and 10K on March 14th.  Two months is plenty of time to train, right?  Race details are at bluemontshamrockrace.com.  Happy running!
